A Japanese tradition

A celebrated tea throughout the world, genmaicha when translated literally means 'rice' (genmai) and 'tea' (cha). Our genmaicha is made with hand selected Japanese sencha which is known for its sweet, grassy flavor which blends perfectly with the toasted, nutty rice.

Frank's Tea Tip

Genmaicha is a green tea, which means that it should be prepared with hot water between 170-180°, not boiling water. The tea will brew quickly so don't over steep and let it turn bitter. 2 - 5 mins is perfect based on your taste preference.

interesting green tea flavor

I am mostly a black tea drinker, but I like to try different teas from time to time. This one is definitely different than any I have tried before. I brewed the pyramid shaped tea sachet in hot water, just below boiling so not to scald the leaves. As you can see in the photo, there are grains of toasted rice added to this tea. So the scent when it was ready to drink, I steeped it for 3 minutes, was that of a rice cake. You could definitely taste the toasted rice more than the tea. It was not a bad flavor, just be ready for that to be the main flavor over the green leaves.
